I like...

I like…

…walks in the sunshine thinking about rain

…staying out all night then doing it again

…never sleeping, never even blinking

…long walks by the ocean while the tide eats the shore

…being in love, bleeding my blood, and always wanting more

I am…

…a penniless drinker who lost his pen and forgot his voice

…a bad gambler bathed in cigar smoke who always seems to win

…a runner chasing trouble and any excuse for a bad time

…laying on my back, in the grass, in the dark, screaming at the moon and stars

…laughing all night without regrets unburdened by memory

We are…

…careless partiers, weekend wagers, hungover mornings

…all insane punching our wall until our knuckles bleed

…mad howling at the night, 4am wolf imitators

…stoned bored late on a Thursday kicking the can waiting for something to do

…almost right almost all of the time

I watch…

…while the wind pushes the leaves dried up from the seasons

…and the birds tread air about the indifferent water

…as the factory coughs smoke into the air the kids walk by too young to care

…and the sun dries up all the puddles the mud turns to dirt then blows away

…while time passes the sun crashes into the horizon spitting up red and gold

I hear…

…the hesitant howl of ancient trains thundering along bloody tracks

…the impenetrable solitude of the black night air

…the gulls crashing on the rocks splashing in the water singing their songs

…the whirling wind whistling across the dry grassy field

…the splashing waves lapping against the cool craggy rocks

I know…

…every star has a reason and every death a meaning

…the singing sun sets for me and rises gratefully for you

…all the days are filled with shrieking degenerates looking for a fix

…all the nights are filled with dreamers and midnight schemers

…the distant moon, the sinking sun, the bitter wind, tells us something about us all
